Five more children die from measles; 1,118 new cases
Five more children have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday, May 27. A total of 1,118 new infections were recorded during the same period, of which 62 were confirmed through laboratory tests.
The measles outbreak is spreading at an alarming rate, with Dhaka division topping both infection and death tolls.
According to DGHS data, a total of 560 children have died from confirmed measles and suspected symptoms in the last two months. Of these, 88 died from confirmed measles, while 472 died from severe measles-like symptoms.
A total of 8,834 children have been confirmed with measles through laboratory tests, while 67,079 suspected cases have been admitted to hospitals.
Dhaka division has recorded the highest number of deaths and infections, with 238 child deaths and 37,794 infections.
The figures cover the period from 8:00 am on March 15 to 8:00 am on Wednesday, May 27. Field-level surveillance has been intensified to control the situation.
