Five more children have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms this year to 729, according to the latest measles update published by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday afternoon, July 3.
The report stated that 1,107 new children showed symptoms of measles or were confirmed with the virus during the same period.
According to DGHS data, the measles outbreak has remained at an alarming level for the past three and a half months. Since March 15, a total of 729 children have died from measles and its symptoms. Of these, 93 died from confirmed measles after laboratory tests, while 636 died from severe measles symptoms.
In the last 24 hours (from 8:00 am on Thursday, July 2, to 8:00 am on Friday, July 3), five more children died with symptoms of the virus, and 1,107 new cases were detected.
