Five more children died from Measles, death toll rises to 565

Five more children died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country over the past 24 hours.

According to the latest update released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday afternoon (May 28), a total of 877 children were newly reported with confirmed measles infections or measles-related symptoms during the reporting period.

The report said the five latest deaths were linked to measles symptoms, although no confirmed measles-related deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 51 children were confirmed to have contracted measles, while another 826 were reported with suspected symptoms.

Since March 15, at least 477 children have died with measles-like symptoms nationwide, while 88 others were confirmed to have died from measles infection. With the latest fatalities, the combined death toll from confirmed measles cases and related symptoms has risen to 565.

Health authorities also reported that 725 more children were admitted to hospitals over the past 24 hours, while 1,023 patients were discharged after recovery.

Since mid-March, the country has recorded a total of 67,905 suspected measles cases and 8,885 confirmed infections, according to official data. Of them, 54,188 patients required hospitalisation, while 50,926 have already recovered and returned home.
