Five more parliamentary committees formed, no opposition in president posts

Five more ministry-related parliamentary standing committees have been formed in the National Parliament. No opposition party lawmaker has been made president of any of the newly formed committees either. At the same time, members have been changed in the parliamentary standing committees related to the Water Resources and Civil Aviation and Tourism ministries.

These committees were formed and reconstituted in the National Parliament session under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Tuesday (September 8). Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni proposed the names of the committees and members. Later it was approved by voice vote.

The five newly formed committees are the parliamentary standing committee related to the Social Welfare Ministry, the parliamentary standing committee related to the Expatriates’ Welfare Ministry, the parliamentary standing committee related to the Railways Ministry, the parliamentary standing committee related to the Science and Technology Ministry and the parliamentary standing committee related to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

Noakhali-4 constituency BNP lawmaker Md Shahjahan has been made president of the committee related to the Social Welfare Ministry. He is also serving as president of the parliamentary committee related to private members’ bills and private members’ decisions and proposals. Gazipur-5 constituency BNP lawmaker AKM Fazlul Haque Milon has become president of the committee related to the Expatriates’ Welfare Ministry.

Khulna-5 constituency BNP lawmaker Mohammad Ali Asgar Lobi has been given the responsibility of president of the committee related to the Railways Ministry. Whip M Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dul has been made president of the committee related to the Science and Technology Ministry. And Gazipur-3 constituency BNP lawmaker SM Rafiqul Islam has become president of the committee related to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

There are a total of 50 parliamentary committees in the National Parliament. Of these, 39 are ministry-related and 11 are subject-based committees. So far 45 committees have been formed. Of these, there are 36 ministry-related standing committees and nine subject-based committees.

Meanwhile, Majharul Islam and Faridul Kabir Talukder have been made members in place of AKM Fazlul Haque Milon and Munshi Rafiqul Alam in the committee related to the Water Resources Ministry. On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Kamrul Hasan has been included in place of the same party’s member Masum Mostafa in the committee related to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry.
