Five rivers swelling above danger level: FFWC
Water levels in five major rivers have risen above the danger mark following days of heavy rainfall across the country and upstream catchment areas, increasing the risk of flooding in several districts, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said on Friday (July 10).
According to the FFWC's 9:00am special flood bulletin, the Sangu, Matamuhuri, Kushiyara, Manu and Khowai rivers were all flowing above their respective danger levels at multiple monitoring stations.
The Sangu River was flowing 95 centimetres above the danger level at Bandarban and 23 centimetres above at Dohazari in Chattogram.
The Matamuhuri River crossed the danger mark by 47 centimetres at Lama in Bandarban and 32 centimetres at Chiringa in Cox's Bazar.
The Kushiyara River was flowing 18 centimetres above the danger level at Markuli in Sunamganj and 10 centimetres above at Fenchuganj in Sylhet.
Meanwhile, the Manu River rose 35 centimetres above the danger level at the Manu Rail Bridge and 80 centimetres above at Moulvibazar, while the Khowai River was flowing 60 centimetres above the danger level at Balla in Habiganj.
The FFWC also warned that water levels at several other monitoring stations remain close to the danger threshold, including the Teesta, Surma, Someshwari and Choto Feni rivers, indicating a heightened flood risk if rainfall persists.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as heavy rainfall is forecast to continue in several parts of the country.
