Five-member probe committee formed over Karail fire

The Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) has formed a five-member committee to investigate the massive fire at the Karail slum in Tejgaon, Dhaka. The committee has been instructed to submit its report within 15 working days.

The committee includes Deputy Director (Operation and Maintenance) Md Mamunur Rashid, Assistant Director (Dhaka) Kazi Nazmuzjaman, Deputy Assistant Director Atish Chakma, Senior Station Officer of Tejgaon Fire Station Md Nazim Uddin Sarkar and Warehouse Inspector Md Sohrab Hossain. Their responsibilities include determining the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of damage.

The fire broke out at Tejgaon’s Karail slum at 5:22pm on Tuesday. After 16 hours of operation, it was fully brought under control at 9:30am on Wednesday. Earlier, at 10:35pm on Tuesday, 19 units managed to bring the fire under control following a continuous five-hour effort. No casualties have been reported so far.
