Floods affect 1 million across seven districts, death toll reaches 51
Heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides have caused severe flooding in seven districts across the country, affecting 10,22,963 people and marooning 2,67,918 families. The death toll has risen to 51, with 39 injured, according to an update from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Sunday, July 12.
The affected districts are Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar and Habiganj. A total of 1,131 shelters have been opened, housing 44,457 people.
Chattogram is the worst-hit, with 16 upazilas, 152 unions and municipalities affected. Some 1,48,500 families are marooned and 5,95,000 people affected. The district has reported 13 deaths and 12 injuries, with 21,900 people in shelters.
Cox's Bazar has 28 confirmed deaths, including 13 Rohingya, with 24 injuries and one missing. Bandarban has six deaths, Rangamati three, and Moulvibazar and Habiganj one each.
The government has allocated Tk 2.85 crore and 3,250 metric tonnes of rice for the seven affected districts, along with Tk 4.60 crore and 8,950 metric tonnes of rice for humanitarian assistance across all 64 districts.
