FM leaves for Turkey, US to campaign for UNGA presidency bid
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has left Dhaka to garner support for Bangladesh's candidature for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He departed on Saturday, March 14.
On his way to New York, he will hold a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Khalilur Rahman will participate in multiple meetings and programmes in New York and Ankara as part of Bangladesh's diplomatic efforts for the UN General Assembly presidency.
During the visit, he is expected to meet with diplomats and partners from various countries to secure support for Bangladesh's candidature.
It is noteworthy that Palestine recently withdrew its candidature for the presidency of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly for the 2026-2027 term. As a result, Bangladesh is now contesting the position with Cyprus.
