Football, cricket among seven sports to be added to primary curriculum
The government has taken an initiative to include seven sports events – football, cricket, chess, karate, volleyball, badminton, athletics and swimming – in the national curriculum from the fourth grade of primary school. The Ministry of Education has already instructed the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) to take necessary measures.
This information was provided in a letter issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division's Government Secondary-1 Branch of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, March 25. The initiative was taken following two separate letters from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The letter stated that the first meeting of the committee formed by the Prime Minister's Office to determine and implement playgrounds in urban and rural areas across the country was held on March 14 under the chairmanship of the State Minister for Youth and Sports. The meeting instructed that the seven sports events be included in the national curriculum from the fourth grade of primary school.
Accordingly, NCTB has been requested to take necessary measures to include these sports events in the curriculum as proposed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
