Foreign lawyer seeks nod to defend Salman F Rahman at tribunal

British lawyer Graeme L Hall has applied to the Bangladesh Bar Council seeking permission to represent former adviser Salman F Rahman before the International Crimes Tribunal in a case over alleged crimes against humanity during the July uprising of 2024.

Salman F Rahman’s lawyer, Munsurul Haque Chowdhury, confirmed the development to the media on Sunday (August 30).

According to the application, Hall submitted the request to the secretary of the Bangladesh Bar Council on August 14, seeking permission to appear as foreign counsel alongside locally appointed lawyers for Salman F Rahman.

The application cited Section 11(8) of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, and requested permission for Hall to participate in proceedings before the tribunal as part of the defence team.

Hall also attached his professional credentials and other relevant documents to the application.

The request comes as Salman F Rahman faces allegations of crimes against humanity linked to events during the July uprising last year.
