Foreign Minister leaves for Qatar on 2-day state visit
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has left for Qatar on a two-day state visit to strengthen bilateral ties. He departed Dhaka for Doha early on Tuesday, August 18, and is scheduled to return on the night of August 19. Discussions on key issues such as energy supply, trade and investment are expected during the visit.
The Foreign Minister is accompanied by a large high-level delegation, underscoring the importance of the visit. The delegation includes the Prime Minister's Adviser for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit, Special Assistant for Investment and Capital Markets Tanvir Shahriar Gani, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and United Commercial Bank (UCB) Chairman Sharif Zahir.
During the visit, Dr Khalilur Rahman will hold a key meeting with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Sources said the meeting is expected to cover discussions on ensuring energy supply, expanding bilateral trade, attracting investment and various issues related to the welfare of Bangladeshi workers employed in Qatar.
