Foreign minister to visit Turkiye to seek votes for UNGA presidency
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir are set to visit Turkiye to garner support for Bangladesh's candidacy for the presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, they will leave Dhaka for Ankara on Friday (March 13). During the visit, Dr. Khalilur Rahman will hold a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Diplomatic sources say that the main purpose of the visit is to campaign for Bangladesh's candidacy for the presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly. In addition, various issues related to bilateral interests are also expected to be discussed.
A meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister is scheduled to be held on March 14. The delegation is scheduled to return to the country on March 16 after the visit.
It is worth noting that this is part of Khalilur Rahman's continuous diplomatic activities after taking charge as Foreign Minister. Earlier, he attended an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Palestine issue in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia.
Later, he also attended the Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting in London. He was accompanied on those visits by the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir.
