Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin has told the journalists to 'forgive and forget' all past issues noting that he will return to his professional life immediately after the formation of the new government.

He made these remarks at a press conference organized at the Secretariat on Tuesday (February 10) to mark the signing of the ‘Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART)’ between Bangladesh and the United States.

He said, 'I have never been active on any communication channel before. I want to return to that quiet life again. I may have made mistakes, so please forgive me. But one last request—please forget me as well.'

He said that journalists have held him accountable through various questions and inquiries. As a result, the pace of his work has increased and where there were mistakes, there is an opportunity to correct those.

The adviser said that he did not have much administrative experience when he joined the government. However, he has tried his best to discharge his duties honestly.

He said, 'I have not discriminated against anyone or shown nepotism. By the grace of Allah, I have got the opportunity to work together.'

Sheikh Bashir Uddin also mentioned the role of the Chief Adviser with gratitude. He said that he was able to fulfill his duties only because of the guidance and cooperation of the Chief Adviser. Whenever necessary, he received guidance with sincerity and wisdom.

He said that everything that has been possible has been done under the guidance of the Chief Adviser. 'Whenever we have asked for guidance on any issue, he has given instructions with incredible compassion and intelligence.'

At the end of the press conference, Sheikh Bashir Uddin said, 'Insha Allah, I will return to my working life as soon as the new government is formed. I hope you will forget me and forgive me. My last request is - please forget me.'
