Formal charges submitted against 4 over Rampura killings
Formal charges have been submitted at the International Crimes Tribunal against four individuals, including former BGB officer Lieutenant Colonel Redwanul Islam, over the killing of 28 people in Rampura during the 2024 uprising.
The other accused are former BGB officer Major Md Rafat Bin Alam Mun, former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of DMP’s Khilgaon division Md Rashedul Islam, and former officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Md Mashiur Rahman.
On Wednesday, October 8, Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed placed the charges before Tribunal-1. Confirming the matter, Prosecutor Gazi Manowar Hossain (M H Tamim) told reporters that six charges had been brought against the four in connection with the BGB shooting during the July movement in Rampura.
It is alleged that during the student–public uprising in July and August last year, the then Awami League government, along with its party cadres, loyal administration, and sections of law enforcement, committed mass killings and crimes against humanity. Trials of such serious crimes are currently ongoing at two International Crimes Tribunals, with this case forming part of the proceedings.
