Former army chief Shafiuddin Ahmed summoned by ACC

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former army chief General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning as part of an investigation into allegations of acquiring illegal assets through various irregularities and corruption. He has been asked to appear before the ACC's headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, at 12:30pm on September 14.

ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter on Sunday, August 30. A notice signed by ACC Director Md Abul Hasnat has been sent to Shafiuddin Ahmed.

The notice stated that allegations have been received against General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed regarding the acquisition of illegal assets through various irregularities and corruption. A two-member investigation team has been formed to probe the allegations, with ACC Director Abul Hasnat as the team leader and Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain as a member.

The notice mentioned that recording Shafiuddin Ahmed's statement is necessary for a proper investigation. He has been directed to appear at the ACC headquarters on the specified date and time and to bring a photocopy of his national identity card.

According to ACC documents, the investigation into the allegations against the former army chief began on December 14, 2025. As part of the probe, the commission has now initiated the process of recording his statement. However, General Shafiuddin Ahmed's response to the allegations could not be obtained immediately.

General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed took over as chief of the Bangladesh Army on June 24, 2021, succeeding General Aziz Ahmed. He retired on June 23, 2024, after completing a three-year tenure. In addition to serving as army chief, he also served as president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association.
