The Intelligence Department (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested former army officer Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, who was in the news for his involvement in the 1/11.

He was arrested from his home in the capital's Baridhara DOHS area late Monday night. DMP DB chief Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning and said that there are five cases against Masud Uddin Chowdhury.

Masud Uddin Chowdhury served as the GOC of the 9th Division of the army in 2007. He played an important role in the turnaround of the 1/11 and served as the coordinator of the National Coordination Committee for the Suppression of Serious Crimes. Later, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and anti-corruption drives were conducted under that committee.

In 2008, he was appointed as Bangladesh's High Commissioner to Australia. Later, the Awami League government extended his service term three times. After retirement, he became involved in various businesses, including restaurants, in Dhaka.

In his political career, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Feni-3 (Sonagazi-Daganbhuiyan) constituency in 2018 and 2024 on the nomination of the Jatiya Party (JP). Earlier, he collected forms as a candidate for the Awami League in the 2018 election, but later joined the Jatiya Party and became a member of the party's presidium.
