Former Awami League MP Azizul Haque detained

Police have arrested former Member of Parliament for Pabna-2 constituency Khandaker Md Azizul Haque Arju (69) from the Lalmatia area of Mohammadpur in the capital. Police said he was arrested with the assistance of local Chhatra Dal leaders.

He was arrested in front of Mina Bazar in Lalmatia around 10:30pm on Monday, September 14.

Arrested Khandaker Md Azizul Haque Arju was a former MP for Pabna-2 in 2014 and was involved in Bangladesh Awami League politics.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Halim said Azizul Haque Arju was arrested from in front of Mina Bazar in Lalmatia around 10:30pm on September 14 with the help of local Chhatra Dal leaders. He sustained minor injuries during a scuffle at the time of the arrest.

The OC further said Azizul Haque Arju suffers from heart disease. Due to this, he was sent to a doctor under police guard along with his family members. After the investigation is completed, further legal action will be taken.
