Former Begum Rokeya University VC Hasibur Rashid arrested

Police have arrested Professor Md Hasibur Rashid, former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.

He was arrested from the Mohammadpur area of the capital on Saturday night, May 16.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mejbah Uddin confirmed the arrest, saying he was detained from a residence on Solimullah Road in the evening. He said they are looking into the number of cases against him, with further details to be disclosed later.

Professor Rashid resigned on August 9, 2024, following demands from students after the fall of the government on August 5.

Professor Hasibur Rashid is a convicted accused in the murder case of Abu Sayed, who was killed during the July uprising. He was sentenced by the International Crimes Tribunal.
