Former chief justice Khairul Haque granted bail in graft case
The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has granted bail to former chief justice A. B. M. Khairul Haque in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission over alleged irregularities in obtaining a plot from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK).
The order was passed on Wednesday by a bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md. Zakir Hossain and Justice Md. Zakir Hossain after the final hearing of his bail petition.
Earlier, on March 8, he was granted bail in four other cases, including charges related to murder and verdict forgery. With this latest decision, Khairul Haque—who had been arrested in five cases—has now secured bail in all of them.
His lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju said there is now no legal barrier to his release from prison.
“There is no legal obstacle to his release now, unless the government takes any new step,” he said.
He had earlier been granted bail in four cases filed over allegations including the killing of a Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal activist in Jatrabari during the July movement and forgery related to the verdict on the caretaker government system.
After being denied bail by lower courts, Khairul Haque filed five separate petitions with the High Court. On October 26, 2025, the High Court issued a rule regarding the bail matter. The latest order has now settled the bail petitions in all five cases.
