Former constable kills himself after hacking son, neighbours
A retired traffic police constable died after jumping from a roof following an attack in which he hacked three people, including his sleeping son, with a sharp weapon in Lakshmipur.
The incident occurred on Monday morning, April 13, at the Peshkar residence in Banchanagar area of Lakshmipur municipality, police said.
The deceased, Nasir Ahmed, 55, was the son of Arshad Ali of Purba Ekhlaspur village in Faridganj upazila, Chandpur. He had been living in the area with his family for seven years and retired as a traffic police constable in August last year.
According to police and local sources, Nasir Ahmed indiscriminately hacked his youngest son Imran while he was sleeping. When Imran, bleeding profusely, went outside, neighbour Mizanur Rahman Swapan rushed to help him. Nasir Ahmed also attacked and injured him.
When another person came forward, he was also injured, locals said.
After the incident, Nasir Ahmed jumped from the roof of the building and was critically injured.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) of Lakshmipur, Hossain Mohammad Rayhan Kazemi, said police and locals rescued the injured and sent them to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Nasir Ahmed died there while undergoing treatment.
He said it is initially believed Nasir Ahmed was suffering from mental instability. The matter is being investigated.
Sadar Hospital RMO Arup Pal said four injured people were brought to the hospital. Nasir Ahmed died under treatment. Two critically injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and one remains admitted.
