Former DGFI chief Mamun Khaled sent to jail after remand ends
A court has ordered former Director General of the Defence Forces Intelligence Directorate (DGFI) Lieutenant General (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled to be sent to jail after multiple rounds of remand in a murder case of BNP activist Moksbul Hossain.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Monday, April 13, rejecting his bail application.
Earlier, on the night of March 25, he was arrested from the capital's Mirpur area by Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB). He was subsequently taken on remand in several murder cases in multiple phases. After the final remand ended, he was produced before the court, which ordered him to be sent to jail.
The prosecution requested that he be kept in custody, while the defence lawyers filed a bail application, which the court rejected.
According to case documents, Moksbul Hossain was shot and killed during a clash in front of the BNP's Naya Paltan office on December 7, 2022. Several individuals were named as accused in the case filed over the incident.
