Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, has been put on life support at BIRDEM Hospital. Sakrayen Siddique, the younger brother of Arefin Siddique, shared this update with the media on Thursday. He informed that Arefin Siddique suddenly collapsed around 2:30pm while he was buying stuffs at the bakery of Dhaka Club. He was immediately taken to BIRDEM, where on-duty doctors revealed that he had sustained a head injury and had suffered a stroke. He was then taken to the Intensive Care Unit. Later, he was placed on life support as his condition deteriorated.

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (ঢাবি) সাবেক উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক আ আ ম স আরেফিন সিদ্দিক বারডেম হাসপাতালে লাইফ সাপোর্টে আছেন। বৃহস্পতিবার (৩ মার্চ) আরেফিন সিদ্দিকের ছোট ভাই সাকরায়েন সিদ্দিক গণমাধ্যমে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন। তিনি জানান, দুপুর সোয়া দুইটার দিকে ব্যাংক থেকে টাকা তোলেন। এরপর আনুমানিক দুপুর আড়াইটার দিকে ঢাকা ক্লাবের বেকারিতে কেনাকাটা করতে গিয়ে পড়ে যান আরেফিন সিদ্দিক। তাৎক্ষণিক তাকে বারডেমে আনা হয়। এখানে পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা করে জানা যায়, তিনি মাথায় আঘাত পেয়েছেন এবং স্ট্রোক করেছেন। ঢাবির সাবেক এ উপাচার্যকে আইসিইউতে নেয়া হয়। পরে অবস্থার অবনতি হলে তাকে ভেন্টিলেশনে রাখা হয় বলে জানান সাকরায়েন সিদ্দিক।
