Former IGP Benazir’s wife, daughter’s tax files seized

A court has ordered the seizure of the income tax records of former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed’s wife, Zeeshan Mirza, and his daughter, Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir.

On Wednesday, November 26, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faez issued the order following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the information.

ACC Deputy Director and investigation officer Md Muhammad Zainal Abedin submitted the petition seeking the seizure of their tax files.

According to the petition, accused Zeeshan Mirza concealed information and illegally accumulated assets worth Tk 16 crore 1 lakh 71 thousand 336 by providing false information, and also possessed movable and immovable properties worth Tk 31 crore 69 lakh 55 thousand 149 beyond known income. Accused Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir similarly possessed properties worth Tk 5 crore 59 lakh 55 thousand 85 beyond known income.

The petition added that cases have been filed against them over these allegations, and for proper investigation, it is essential to seize and review their income tax returns and related documents.
