Former joint secretary Joglul Pasha sent to jail after remand

A court has ordered former joint secretary Syed Joglul Pasha to be sent to jail after a seven-day remand in a case filed over obstructing former prime minister Khaleda Zia from attending a rally by placing sand-filled trucks and using pepper spray in front of her Gulshan residence.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain passed the order after a hearing on Thursday, August 13.

Joglul Pasha was produced before the court after the remand period ended. His lawyer Abul Kalam Azad filed a bail petition and requested the court to set a date for the bail hearing on Sunday. After the hearing, the court set Sunday for the bail hearing and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Earlier, on August 4, Joglul Pasha was arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police from his Basundhara residence in the capital at around 1:30am.

The following day, August 5, he was produced in court and a 10-day remand was sought. He was sent to jail that day. Later, on August 6, the court granted a seven-day remand.
