Former Jubo Dal leader arrested in Radda attack case
Police have arrested Nur Alam, former joint general secretary of Shah Ali Thana Jubo Dal, in connection with the attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in the capital's Mirpur-1. With this, the number of arrests in the incident has reached 16.
He was arrested from the Darus Salam area on Thursday night, October 1.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar confirmed the matter on Friday, October 2.
He said another person named Nur Alam has been arrested in connection with the attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda health centre. With this, a total of 16 people have been arrested in the incident.
Police said Nur Alam was a former joint general secretary of Shah Ali Thana Jubo Dal. He was expelled from all posts of Jubo Dal on September 30 on charges of involvement in anti-party discipline activities.
On the night of September 25, more than two hundred people attacked the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, carrying out extensive vandalism and looting. Later, several structures of the health centre were demolished with excavators.
Allegations of police inaction were raised after the incident. Later, the then Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shah Ali Police Station, Jahangir Alam, was withdrawn.
After allegations of involvement of political leaders emerged in the incident, BNP dissolved the Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP committee. At the same time, the local committees of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal were also dissolved. Several leaders and activists were also expelled.
Meanwhile, after allegations of involvement in the incident emerged, reserved women's seat MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misti resigned on Thursday on the instructions of the Prime Minister. However, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the investigation process into the allegations raised against her will continue.
