Former minister Dipu Moni hospitalised after falling ill in jail
Former minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dipu Moni, 64, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after falling ill while in Munshiganj jail.
She was initially treated at Munshiganj General Hospital before being referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment on Monday morning, June 29. After preliminary tests at the emergency department, she was admitted to the medicine department of the new building.
Hospital Assistant Director Dr Md Arifuzzaman confirmed the matter. "She has kidney, thyroid and allergy-related conditions. Her condition is not extremely critical, but doctors felt she needed better treatment, so we referred her to Dhaka," he said.
Munshiganj District Jail Superintendent Muhammad Enayet Ullah said Dipu Moni had been suffering from these conditions for some time. "Around 1:30 am on Monday, she felt unwell. We took her to Munshiganj General Hospital immediately, and doctors referred her to Dhaka," he said.
Dipu Moni, a former foreign and education minister, was serving as the joint general secretary of the banned Awami League before its activities were suspended.
