Former secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam arrested

Former secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam has been arrested on allegations of a secret liaison with 'Mancha 71'. He was arrested in a case of an "anti-government conspiracy". Former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui had been sent to jail in this same case.

On Tuesday (September 9), Dhaka Metropolitan Police informed about the arrest of several, including Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam.

Additional Commissioner of Police Md Shafiqul Islam told journalists, "He has been arrested in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Shahbagh Police Station. Information was found about his secret collusion with Latif Siddiqui and Abu Alam Shahid Khan. Following this, he was arrested."

Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam was the secretary of the Planning Division in 2013. In 2015, he was appointed as the secretary to the President's Office.
