Former student tears up Jinnah's photo kept at DUCSU

A photograph of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah kept at the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) museum has sparked widespread discussion and criticism. Finally, former Dhaka University student Abu Tayeb Hawlader broke the frame of the photograph. He went to the museum at noon on Monday, September 14, broke the frame and tore up the photograph.

It is learned that he was a discussed and senior vice-president (VP) candidate in the DUCSU election. He was a student of the Urdu Department of the 2001-02 academic year at Dhaka University.

Before tearing up Jinnah's photograph, Abu Tayeb Hawlader said, "Jinnah created the basis for Bangladesh's independence. At Curzon Hall, in front of students, he said that Urdu would be the state language of Pakistan, not Bengali. Many students of our Dhaka University protested. They said, Mr Jinnah, we do not accept your decision."

He further said, "Abul Kasem is known as the main hero of the Language Movement. Under his leadership, a hartal was observed on March 11, 1948. Many students were arrested there, more than two thousand. That Jinnah cannot have a place in DUCSU."
