Four children die with measles symptoms in 24 hours
Four more children have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a press release on Friday, June 19.
According to the DGHS, 1,078 new suspected measles patients were identified during the same period.
From March 15 to June 19 this year, the total number of suspected measles patients across the country has reached 90,982. Of these, 1,078 were identified in the last 24 hours.
Laboratory tests confirmed 96 new cases of measles in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed measles patients from March 15 to June 19 has risen to 10,869.
Public health experts said children who remain outside the vaccination programme are at higher risk of infection. Measles is highly contagious and spreads rapidly. Ensuring regular vaccination for children and bringing infected individuals under prompt medical care has become crucial.
The DGHS is closely monitoring the situation as measles infections increase in various parts of the country. Emphasis is being placed on raising public awareness, strengthening vaccination programmes, and ensuring rapid identification of infected individuals to control the spread.
Experts say measles is a preventable disease. Timely vaccination and adherence to hygiene practices can significantly reduce the risk of infection.
