Four Jamaat leaders expelled over attack on journalists in Dhanmondi
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka Metropolitan South unit has expelled four of its leaders following an investigation into the attack on journalists in Dhanmondi on Tuesday, June 23.
The decision was made on Wednesday, June 24, based on recommendations from a probe committee formed immediately after the incident.
The expelled individuals are Shafiqul Islam, Khairul Alam Russell, Abul Kalam and Mamun Hossain, according to a press release signed by Abdus Sattar Sumon, assistant publicity secretary of Jamaat's Dhaka Metropolitan South unit.
The organisation had formed a four-member investigation committee shortly after the incident. The committee's report led to the expulsions, the statement said.
Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan South unit had expressed regret over the incident and visited injured journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir at his residence.
