Four new police stations proposed for Dhaka: DMP Commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken plans to establish four more new police stations and several police camps in the capital to control the law and order situation and bring policing services to people's doorsteps.
Acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar unveiled the plan at the inaugural ceremony of the new Khilkhet police camp at the Police Officers' Housing Society-1 on 300-feet road in Khilkhet, capital, on Friday afternoon, May 8. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir inaugurated the new police camp as the chief guest.
Sarwar said several new police camps and four new police stations are planned for the capital. A police camp was inaugurated in Karwan Bazar last week to prevent various problems and extortion. A new camp has now been opened in Khilkhet, and work is underway to establish camps in several other areas.
He said a proposal for a new police station in Rayerbazar is currently at the ministry level. Efforts are also underway to create another new police station covering parts of Mohammadpur, Adabor and Hazaribagh. Another police station named 'Bashundhara' is planned covering parts of Bhatara, Badda and Khilkhet. A new police station has been proposed for the Khilgaon area. He also said four police stations and six police camps will be established in Purbachal once policing begins there.
A new camp will be set up quickly in the Beribandh housing area of Mohammadpur once accommodation is secured. A police camp is being set up in Beraid, which is far from Badda. A new camp will also be set up at Ghuntighar in Gendaria or Wari area. Existing sanctioned police camps are being reorganised and moved to densely populated and crime-prone areas.
The IGP said residential and commercial establishments are rapidly growing around the new city of Purbachal. With increasing population and traffic movement around the 300-feet expressway, ensuring law and order and prompt police response in Barua, Dumni, Patira, Tolna and surrounding areas under Khilkhet police station has become essential. As these areas are far from the police station, quick response in emergencies is difficult.
The new camp will help deliver faster and effective policing services to people's doorsteps and further strengthen proactive policing activities, the police chief added. He reaffirmed the Bangladesh Police's commitment to building a modern, people-friendly and technology-dependent policing system.
