Four parliamentary standing committees formed, including defence and energy

Proposals have been placed in the National Parliament to form four parliamentary standing committees on the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; the Ministry of Defence; government institutions; and the Ministry of Public Administration. Chief Whip of the Bangladesh National Parliament Nurul Islam Moni presented the proposals on behalf of the Leader of the House, with the latter's permission.

The committees have been formed with members of the 13th National Parliament to carry out their formation, functions and responsibilities in accordance with Article 76 of the Constitution of Bangladesh and Rules 246, 247 and 248 of the Rules of Procedure of the National Parliament.

The committees were formed on Thursday, September 10, at the National Parliament with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed in the chair.

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (223, Shariatpur-3) has been made chairman of the standing committee on the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. Members of this committee include the Minister in charge of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (if he is a Member of Parliament), Anindya Islam Amit (87, Jashore-3), Mohammad Kaisar Ahmed (226, Sunamganj-3), Rafiqul Islam Hilali (159, Netrokona-3), SM Jahangir Hossain (191, Dhaka-18), Nayab Yusuf Ahmed (213, Faridpur-3), Momtaz Alo (328, Women's Seat-28), Mohammad Nazibbur Rahman (68, Pabna-1) and Md Abul Hasnat (252, Cumilla-4).

Md Ashraf Uddin (203, Narsingdi-5) has been nominated as chairman of the standing committee on the Ministry of Defence. Members of this committee include the Minister in charge of the Ministry of Defence (if he is a Member of Parliament), Md Shafiqur Rahman (188, Dhaka-15), Nurul Islam Moni (110, Barguna-2), SM Jilani (217, Gopalganj-3), Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (223, Shariatpur-3), Abdus Salam Azad (172, Munshiganj-2), Reza Ahmed (75, Kushtia-1), Lutfar Rahman (296, Cox's Bazar-3) and Md Abdul Baten (189, Dhaka-16).

Nurul Islam Moni (110, Barguna-2) himself has been given the responsibility of chairman of the standing committee on government institutions. Members of this committee include Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (223, Shariatpur-3), Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia (9, Dinajpur-4), Mosammat Tahsina Rushdir (230, Sylhet-2), Khandaker Abu Ashfaq (174, Dhaka-1), Mohammad Kaisar Ahmed (226, Sunamganj-3), Biswas Jahangir Alam (93, Narail-1), Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan (204, Narayanganj-1), Mohammad Nazibbur Rahman (68, Pabna-1) and Mohammad Kamal Hossain (178, Dhaka-5).

Saeed Ahmed (221, Shariatpur-1) has been made chairman of the standing committee on the Ministry of Public Administration. Members of this committee include Md Abdul Bari (35, Joypurhat-2), ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan (277, Lakshmipur-4), Shahjahan Chowdhury (297, Cox's Bazar-4), Mohammad Nurul Islam (118, Bhola-4), Md Amirul Islam Khan (66, Sirajganj-5), Fakhr Uddin Ahmed (156, Mymensingh-11), Rehena Akter Ranu (304, Women's Seat-4), Shahjahan Chowdhury (292, Chattogram-15) and Md Nurul Islam (45, Chapainawabganj-3).
