Four-day DC Conference to begin today
The four-day Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference begins in Dhaka on Sunday (May 3), with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman set to inaugurate the event.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani announced the conference at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Saturday (May 2), stating that all district commissioners will attend alongside ministers and state ministers from 56 ministries.
The inaugural session will be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium at 10:30am, followed by a series of sessions focusing on policy implementation, field-level administrative challenges and public service delivery.
Officials said the conference will include 34 sessions, including 30 working sessions, where 498 proposals—selected from 1,729 submissions by field administration—will be discussed. Key agenda items include health services, land management, law and order, local government, disaster management, employment, social safety, e-governance, education and infrastructure development.
Additional Secretary Humayun Kabir said this year’s conference has been extended to four days from three. During the event, deputy commissioners will hold courtesy meetings with the President, the Speaker and the Chief Justice.
Officials expressed hope that the conference will help address administrative, legal and financial challenges at the field level, while improving public service delivery and accelerating development activities.
According to the Cabinet Division, around 44 percent of decisions taken at last year’s conference were implemented, including 62 percent of short-term, 36 percent of medium-term and 16 percent of long-term measures.
A media corner will be set up to provide regular briefings after each session, officials added.
