BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that holding a free and fair election under the current Awami League administration is impossible.

He made the remarks on Monday morning after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The programme was organized by the newly formed committee of BNP’s Nilphamari district unit.

“A free and fair election will be held in February,” Rizvi said, “but for that to happen, Awami League loyalists must be removed from the administration.”

Referring to the proposed proportional representation (PR) voting system, Rizvi stated that the people are not yet prepared for such a change. “There are lingering doubts about the motives of those pushing for PR,” he added.

In response to questions from journalists, Rizvi also expressed hope that the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election would ensure representation from all political viewpoints.

“When student representatives are active on campus, it helps maintain a proper academic environment,” he said.
