Free Wi-Fi service launched at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport
Free high-speed Wi-Fi service has been launched for passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam inaugurated the service on Sunday afternoon, May 17. State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Fakir Mahbub Anam, and Prime Minister's Adviser on Post, Telecommunications and IT Rehan Asif Asad were also present.
Speaking after the inauguration, Afroza Khanam said the government is working to ensure fast and reliable internet for everyone in line with its electoral pledge, and the airport Wi-Fi service is part of that effort. She expressed hope that the third terminal will also be inaugurated soon.
The new Wi-Fi network covers approximately 94,000 square metres, including Terminal-1, Terminal-2, the Domestic Terminal, VIP and VVIP terminals, and the car parking area. The network has been equipped with 250 access points, 48 kilometres of optical fibre and ethernet cable, and 37 access switches. Each access point can serve up to 150 users simultaneously, and the entire network will operate with a maximum bandwidth capacity of 40 Gbps. Over 37,000 passengers will be able to use the service at the same time.
Since the service was launched on a trial basis on April 26, approximately 20,000 passengers have used it, consuming a total of 2.3 terabytes of data.
