A second team of specialist physicians from China has arrived in Dhaka to assist in the advanced treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The four-member delegation reached Evercare Hospital at 10:10pm on Wednesday, where BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir received them.

According to BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, the visiting Chinese specialists include Qi Jianfan, Yan Zhi, Zhong Youxi, and Meng Hong O. Earlier in the day, renowned UK specialist Dr. Richard Beale also arrived in Dhaka and held meetings with members of the existing medical board.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 after developing a lung infection and was subsequently shifted to the CCU. Her treatment is being supervised by Evercare’s medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder.

Specialists from the United States and United Kingdom—including experts from Johns Hopkins University and London Clinic—have joined the medical team virtually. BNP Chairperson’s personal physician Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said that the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is maintaining constant communication with the doctors from London.

Evercare’s medical board includes some of Bangladesh’s top physicians, such as Prof. FM Siddiqui, Prof. Nuruddin Ahmed, Prof. AQM Mohsin, Prof. Shamsul Arefin, Prof. Ziaul Haque, Prof. Masum Kamal, and Prof. AZM Saleh, among others.

The nearly 80-year-old former prime minister has long been suffering from liver cirrhosis, kidney complications, heart issues, diabetes and arthritis. The London Clinic earlier declined to proceed with her liver transplant, deeming the procedure highly risky.

Doctors say her condition remains “critical,” as improvements in one complication are often followed by deterioration in another. They consider the next few days crucial, though it is encouraging that she is responding to treatment and her medications.

Meanwhile, doctors have dismissed as baseless the rumors circulating on social media about her health. Her family and party have urged the public not to pay heed to misinformation.
