Fuel prices adjusted minimally considering public hardship: Energy Minister
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tuku has said that the government has adjusted domestic price hikes minimal in consideration of public hardship.
His remarks came as revised fuel prices came into effect nationwide today (April 19).
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the government absorbed an additional $2 billion in fuel import costs due to global market instability, adding that international fuel prices have nearly doubled compared to pre-conflict levels, placing significant pressure on the country’s import bill and fiscal balance.
“Despite this sharp increase in global prices, the government has not raised fuel prices in proportion,” he said.
Under the new pricing structure, petrol has increased by Tk 19 per litre and octane by Tk 20 per litre, while diesel has gone up by Tk 15 per litre. Following the adjustment, octane is now priced at Tk 140 per litre, petrol at Tk 135, and diesel at Tk 115.
The price of kerosene has also been revised, now retailing at Tk 130 per litre at the consumer level.
