Fuel rationing withdrawn from emergency services: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that fuel rationing has been withdrawn from forces engaged in emergency services. He made the announcement while responding to a question in the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday, April 26.
The prime minister said the fuel restrictions imposed on law enforcement agencies including police, as well as emergency services such as ambulances and fire services, have already been lifted. He noted that the decision was taken two days ago, and it is expected that emergency service operations will no longer face any disruption.
Earlier, during a point of order in parliament, Monirul Haque Chowdhury, member of parliament for the Cumilla-6 constituency, raised the issue of the killing of customs officer Bullet Bairagi in Cumilla. He informed the House that when police were contacted after the incident, they expressed inability to reach the spot late at night due to fuel shortages and limited duty capacity.
Chowdhury demanded the immediate withdrawal of fuel rationing for police and warned that the law and order situation could deteriorate if the restrictions continued. The prime minister's announcement is being seen as a crucial step towards ensuring public safety.
