Fuel to be sold under rationing system from Sunday: State Minister
Fuel oil will be sold under a rationing system from Sunday to ensure there is no long-term fuel crisis in the country, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has announced.
The state minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting a petrol pump in Paribagh on Friday, March 6.
Stating that there is no fuel oil shortage in the country, the state minister said adequate fuel reserves currently exist. Therefore, no one should hoard fuel out of unnecessary concern.
The state minister said fuel oil supply in the country is normal and the government is regularly monitoring the situation. It has been learned that due to various rumours surrounding the international situation, many are attempting to purchase and hoard extra fuel. This creates a risk of instability in the market.
He said, "The country has sufficient fuel as of now. There is no need to be worried and hoard extra fuel. Everyone should buy only what they need."
The state minister further stated that the government has taken all necessary measures to ensure fuel oil supply and reserves. Concerned agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant so that no artificial crisis is created anywhere.
Noting that the government is alert to ensure fuel prices do not increase, the state minister said, "Abnormal price hikes in fuel have occurred in the international market; prices in Bangladesh may be adjusted to manage the pressure. The government will try not to increase fuel prices as much as possible."
The state minister visited oil pumps today due to public panic over the global fuel crisis. He began his inspection at a petrol pump station in Paribagh in the capital. He spoke with customers present there, who also shared their complaints.
