Full court meeting decides to promote one thousand judges
A full court meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed with the participation of judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court. The meeting decided to include nearly one thousand judges from the subordinate courts in the promotion panel—from Senior Assistant Judge to Joint District Judge, from Joint District Judge to Additional District Judge, and from Additional District Judge to District Judge.
Among them, the full court approved the proposal to include around 300 Additional District Judges in the promotion panel for the position of District Judge.
The meeting took place in the Supreme Court Conference Room from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
According to multiple sources, a proposal was placed to include 345 judges in the promotion panel from Additional District and Sessions Judge to District and Sessions Judge, of which 265 were approved. In addition, proposals to promote over 700 judges from Joint District and Sessions Judge to Additional District and Sessions Judge, and from Senior Assistant Judge to Joint District and Sessions Judge were also approved.
Sources confirmed that the issue of former Judge (District and Sessions Judge) Mosammat Kamrun Nahar of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 was raised in the meeting. One source said that her judicial powers had been withdrawn through an administrative order, which was later suspended following a review. After discussion, the matter was referred to the GA Committee for further administrative review. The GA Committee will make the final decision on the issue.
