Funeral of Toufique Imrose Khalidi to be held in Banani, burial at Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard

The funeral of the late chief editor of bdnews24.com Toufique Imrose Khalidi will be held at the Old DOHS playground in Banani of the capital. Later he will be buried at the Mirpur Shahid Intellectuals’ Graveyard.

The body of Toufique Imrose Khalidi will arrive in the country from London on Saturday morning. After that his coffin will be taken to the residence. There the family members and relatives will get the opportunity to see him for the last time.

His coffin will be kept at the Old DOHS playground in Banani from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday. During this time friends, relatives, colleagues, well-wishers and people of various classes and professions of society will pay their last respects to him. His funeral prayer will be held at the same place at 3pm. Later he will be buried at the Mirpur Shahid Intellectuals’ Graveyard at 5pm in the afternoon.

Toufique Imrose Khalidi, who was in London on a personal visit, suddenly fell ill on the night of October 1. When he was taken to St Bartholomew’s Hospital, the doctors informed that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage. The next day the doctors declared him dead at 2:23pm local time.

After that, his funeral prayer was held at the Brick Lane Mosque in East London after the Zuhr prayer on October 8. There his former colleagues and representatives of the local Bangladeshi community paid their last respects.

At that funeral, his son and director of Bangladesh News 24 Hours Limited Raad Sharar Khalidi gave a brief speech from the side of the family. He said that his father had some ideals in professional life with which he never wanted to compromise. His father believed that journalism should be honest, fearless and independent. Journalism was not only a profession to him, but rather a place of responsibility and deep passion.

Raad Sharar Khalidi further said that his father had to go through many difficult times in life while performing this responsibility. He expressed gratitude from the side of the family to those who stood beside him in those restless and difficult times.
