Future governments will be accountable to people: Tarique Rahman

BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said the government in the future will be accountable to the people.

He said, "If we receive your support in governing the state, the government in the future will be accountable to the people. The BNP government, inshallah, will be as strict as possible in controlling corruption in the country. The rule of law will be re-established in the country, inshallah. This is my pledge to the countrymen. It is the pledge of the BNP."

He made these remarks in an address to the nation on Monday evening, February 9, on the occasion of the national election and referendum.

The speech was broadcast on state media Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.

Tarique Rahman said, "There is no alternative to keeping the state and the government accountable to the people. The reason for my pledge to you is that you are the source of all political power for the BNP. During the fascist regime, in the so-called dummy election of January 7, 2024, I appealed to you and said, 'Spend the entire day of January 7 with your family.' My call to the countrymen in the national election held in a Bangladesh free of fascism this time, my humble request to you is to vote for the sheaf of paddy throughout the day on February 12. Let the first vote of the youth be for the sheaf of paddy."

He added, "On February 12, you appoint the candidates of the sheaf of paddy. From the 13th, your elected MPs will take up their responsibilities to you. I will take the responsibility, inshallah, to ensure whether your elected representatives are fulfilling their duties properly. If we receive your support on February 12, then the guiding principle of the BNP in state governance will be the great ideal of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to establish justice. Vote for the sheaf of paddy throughout the day on February 12."
