Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year has been formulated with the goal of laying the foundation for a welfare-oriented state, pledging to implement it through collective efforts despite existing resource constraints.

The minister made the remarks after arriving at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to present the national budget on Thursday (June 11), describing the spending plan as a roadmap for economic recovery, inclusive growth and long-term prosperity.

Speaking to reporters before placing the budget in parliament, the minister said the government had prioritised overall national development and improvements in people's quality of life while preparing the budget.

“This budget has been designed with the objective of establishing the foundation of a welfare state. Within our limited resources, we will work together to ensure its successful implementation,” he said.

The finance minister noted that this year’s budget carries special significance as it is being presented under an elected government after a prolonged period, raising public expectations regarding economic management and development planning.

He said the government had taken into account the aspirations of citizens, future development goals and the country's economic realities while drafting the budget.

Referring to the current economic situation, Amir Khasru said the government inherited a fragile and weakened economy and is now focused on restoring stability and creating the conditions necessary for sustainable growth.

“We have prepared this budget within our financial capacity. It reflects our commitment to steering the country from economic fragility toward stability and ultimately building a prosperous Bangladesh,” he said.

Highlighting the budget’s inclusive approach, the minister said special emphasis had been placed on ensuring broader participation in national and economic activities so that the benefits of growth reach people across all segments of society.

According to him, the proposed budget seeks to create opportunities for all citizens to contribute to and benefit from the country's development process, reinforcing the government's vision of equitable and people-centred economic progress.
