Gambling advertisements appeared on the verified Facebook page of Sports Minister Aminul Haque on Friday evening, June 19, sparking widespread discussion. Multiple promotional posts for online gambling were seen on his official page, which were later removed but then reposted with new ads.

According to reports, the first gambling ad appeared on the verified page under the name 'Aminul Haque' around 6:30 pm. After four posts were published in quick succession, they were removed. However, shortly after, three new ads were posted, promoting online gambling in English and Turkish.

The page was later deactivated.

Following the incident, the minister claimed his Facebook page had been hacked. "Efforts are underway to recover the page. It is believed that an organised group is behind this to tarnish my and the government's reputation," he said.

In a statement, the minister said a "nefarious group" had deliberately hacked his account to damage his personal and political image. He urged everyone not to trust any confusing or unwanted posts published from the page.

The statement added that the responsibility for these activities does not lie with the minister; rather, it is part of a conspiracy against him. Work is ongoing to recover the account, and an official announcement will be made once successful.

Under the country's Cyber Security Act, online gambling promotion and advertising are completely prohibited. Section 20 of the Act states that operating, promoting or advertising gambling portals, apps or devices is a punishable offence, carrying a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment or a fine of up to Tk 1 crore, or both.

However, the minister could not provide details on how the page was hacked or who might be involved. He said legal action would be taken regarding the matter.
