Garment workers block road in Tejgaon, halting traffic

Workers of Posh Garment Ltd. have staged a protest in the capital's Tejgaon industrial area over the shutdown of the factory without any advance notice.

The protest led to the blockage of Nabisco and Tibet intersections from Saturday morning (August 23).

"Workers demand that factory closures be carried out according to proper regulations, or that the closed garment factories be reopened," Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of DMP's Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, said.

"They have vowed to continue the protest until their demands are met," he added.

Meanwhile, the DMP's Gulshan Traffic Department confirmed the development through a facebook post. "Police have been deployed at the site," the post read.

The post also advised using alternative routes are as follows:

Vehicles from Uttara can take the Gulshan-2, Gulshan-1, and Police Plaza routes via Kakoli crossing, or use the road to Jahangir Gate to reach Tejgaon; The Police Plaza route is also accessible via Gulshan-1 through Amtali; Vehicles from Uttara to Tejgaon can use the flyover bridge; Traffic from Mohakhali to Banani/Gulshan-Northeast is being operated on the outgoing route.
