Gazette of ninth pay scale this week itself: Cabinet secretary

The government has approved the proposed ninth national pay scale 2026 for government employees after a long wait. The approval of the new salary structure was given at the Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat in the afternoon on Monday (August 31).

Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Gani highlighted various aspects of the new pay scale at a press conference organised at the Department of Information of the Secretariat after the Cabinet meeting. He informed that the gazette of the National Pay Scale 2026 will be published within the current week itself.

The Cabinet Secretary said the existing 20 grades of the government employees have been kept intact in the new salary structure. However the initial basic salary of every grade has been re-fixed. The rate of increase of the initial basic salary by grade has been from a minimum of 100 percent to a maximum of 142 percent.

In the new scale the initial basic salary of the highest Grade 1 has increased from Tk 78,000 to Tk 1,56,000. On the other hand the initial basic salary of the 20th grade has been fixed by increasing from Tk 8,250 to Tk 20,000. As a result the rate of salary increase in the lowest grade has stood at 142 percent.

The Joint Forces Instructions 2026 for the armed forces has also been approved in consistency with the new salary structure. At the same time the decision has been taken to launch a monthly allowance of Tk 3,000 for the first time for the government employees having children with special needs.

The path of changing the long-standing salary structure of the government officers and employees has also opened due to the implementation of the new pay scale. After the publication of the gazette the administrative process of the effective date of the new salary structure and the implementation of various facilities will advance formally.
