A Dhaka court has imposed a temporary ban on Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader and Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam from engaging in any party-related activities.

Judge Md Nurul Islam of Dhaka First Joint District Judge's Court on Thursday (July 31) issued the order following a legal challenge filed by Jatiya Party senior leaders Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader.

The petition contested the dismissal of several key party members and the restructuring of the party's leadership by GM Quader.

Additionally to the ban, the court reinstated the positions and primary memberships of 10 senior leaders who had been previously removed by Quader. The reinstated figures include: Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Senior Co-Chairman; ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Co-Chairman; Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Secretary General; M A Razzak Khan, Office Secretary-2;

Presidium Members: Solaiman Alam Seth (Chattogram), Nazma Akhtar (Feni), Md Zahirul Islam Zahir (Tangail), Mostafa Al Mahmud (Jamalpur), Jashim Uddin (Netrokona), and Arifur Rahman Khan (Gazipur)

The court also barred GM Quader from using Section 20(1)(a) of the party constitution, which allows the chairman to take disciplinary action against party members.

The plaintiffs alleged that Quader’s appointment as party chairman in 2019 and subsequent amendments to the party constitution were done in violation of party rules.

The temporary injunction will remain in effect until further notice.
