Gold price drops by nearly Tk30,000 per bhori in two days
Gold prices in the local market have fallen sharply in two consecutive revisions, dropping by nearly Tk30,000 per bhori within just two days. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association, Bajus, announced a new rate after reducing Tk15,762 per bhori in the latest adjustment.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Bajus’ Standing Committee on Price and Price Monitoring on January 31. Under the new rate, the price of 22-carat hallmark gold has been fixed at Tk21,915 per gram, equivalent to Tk255,617 per bhori in local measurement.
Bajus said the price was revised considering the decline in the cost of acid gold or pure gold in the local market.
According to the new rates:
21-carat hallmark gold: Tk20,920 per gram, Tk244,010 per bhori
18-carat gold: Tk17,930 per gram, Tk209,135 per bhori
Traditional method gold: Tk14,735 per gram, Tk171,869 per bhori
The organisation also said the government-fixed 5 per cent VAT and a minimum 6 per cent wage set by Bajus will be added to the selling price. The labour charge may vary depending on the design and quality of jewellery.
Earlier, on January 30, the price was reduced by Tk14,638 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk271,363 per bhori. With the two revisions, the total decline has reached nearly Tk30,000.
So far this year, gold prices have been adjusted 18 times, including 13 increases and five decreases. Last year, prices were changed 93 times, including 64 increases and 29 reductions.

18-carat silver: Tk5,949 per bhori
