Gold prices in Bangladesh surged to a new record on Thursday (January 29), with 22-carat gold now priced at Tk 2,86,001 per bhori, up Tk 16,213 from Wednesday, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

The previous day, 22-carat gold had risen by Tk 7,348 to Tk 269,788, setting a fresh record at the time. The latest increase marks consecutive record highs.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, chaired by Dr. Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, approved the price hike in a meeting on Thursday morning. The new rates took effect at 10:15am.

Silver prices also saw significant increases. The price of 22-carat silver per tola rose Tk 816 to Tk 8,573, 21-carat silver increased by Tk 758 to Tk 8,165, 18-carat silver by Tk 641 to Tk 6,998, and traditional silver by Tk 467 to Tk 5,249.

BAJUS attributed the rise in gold prices largely to higher local market rates for pure gold (tejabi sona).
