Gold prices drop again in local market
The price of gold in Bangladesh has fallen again within 24 hours, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announcing a significant reduction in all categories of gold rates, citing a decline in international bullion prices.
According to a notice issued on Saturday (May 16), the price of 22-carat gold—the highest quality available in the local market—has been reduced by up to Tk 4,374 per bhori, bringing the new rate to Tk 238,121. The previous day, the price stood at Tk 242,495.
The new rates came into effect at 10:00am on Saturday, the organisation confirmed.
BAJUS said the revision reflects the fall in the price of pure gold (tazabi gold) in the international market, which directly influences domestic pricing.
Under the revised structure, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk 227,331 per bhori, while 18-carat gold stands at Tk 194,847. Traditional gold (sanatan method) has been set at Tk 158,689 per bhori.
Alongside gold, silver prices have also been adjusted downward. A bhori of 22-carat silver is now priced at Tk 5,657, while 21-carat silver stands at Tk 5,365. Eighteen-carat silver is priced at Tk 4,607, and traditional silver at Tk 3,741 per bhori.
